There is definitely better than the last one I read (can’t even remember which one that was). I couldn’t even finish that one. This one was okay. But like CSI LV, Cussler has a cookie cutter outline for his books that is just getting to be too routine now. I can pretty much tell you exactly what’s going to happen next and with an aging Pitt it’s not so exciting anymore. Bringing in Dirk and Summer has done nothing to help either. Dirk Sr. was what made the books and Cussler has really underutilized the younger Dirk in a way that attracts me to stay with the cookie cutter plot. I think this was my last Dirk Pitt novel. I may try another Kurt Austin, but it’s the same pattern as Dirk all over again but with two new characters.
